He looks at you, as if sensing you probing his mind. 'You cannot trust me? Even after finding me thus?' He looks at you gravely. His voice still is powerful, though he has been in captivity for so long. He is, after all, a minor Darklord, perhaps having seen even the original Darklords themselves, since Xagash can live that long.

Pretending to meekly bow your head in shame, you vow to find much more out about these Xagash if you ever return safely to Helgedad. They seem more resilient than even you would give credit for. This could perhaps pose a danger for you someday, if you fail to sway all of them to your cause. In addition, you are from Helgedad, and even Lakaast should know you can trust no one, at any time.

'I know of your predicament,' he starts, 'For the Kai have made no secret of it. They have even told me of the trap they have prepared for you, but I have listened young one, and I have discovered much. The building in which the sword is kept, they have laid a trap, one which even you could not possibly escape from, but there is another way. They do not realize that I know of their secret passages.'

'Secret passages?' you ask.

'Yes,' he responds. 'This entire complex is connected by underground links, tunnels leading from one building to the next. In their ignorance they believed that I could not tell how they traveled from one place to the next. I was not fooled, if you will follow me now, I will lead you to them.'

You follow him with trepidation. Lakaast obviously does not trust you either, not completely at least, for you sense he is hiding certain thoughts from you now. All you sense is fear that you will discover these thoughts, but nothing else. You sense there may be more to this than appears on the surface. During this point, while you travel, unless you possess the skill of Hunting you must eat a meal or lose 3 Endurance Points.

Lakaast goes to an apparently blank wall, taps on it a couple times, and out of the blankness a door appears. Opening it up, he motions for you to follow.

If you wish to follow him into this tunnel, turn to 38.

If you wish to leave him to his fate then you may explore the other passage, by turning to 44.

Or you may alternately exit the building, by turning to 37.
